Dexcom has issued an updated Urgent Medical Device Correction notice related to specific G6 and G7 handheld receivers after reports of missed audio alerts due to a speaker malfunction. The update, dated June 3, 2025, follows a previous notice from May and comes after the FDA classified the issue as a Class I recall, indicating the potential for serious health risks.

The affected receivers—part numbers MT27408-1 (G6) and MT26403-0 (G7)—may fail to emit audio alerts, though vibration and visual cues remain functional. Receivers are small, handheld devices that display glucose readings and alerts for those who don’t use a smartphone app. Dexcom has received 112 global complaints and 56 reports of severe adverse events, including seizures and loss of consciousness, all of which resulted in full recovery.

The root cause appears to involve defective foam or assembly issues disrupting contact between the speaker and the circuit board. More than 2 million receivers have been distributed worldwide, but only devices identified through their serial number are eligible for replacement.

Dexcom urges users to test speaker functionality regularly and is offering no-cost replacements for affected receivers.

For users relying on smartphone apps, Dexcom’s CGM systems continue to deliver accurate glucose readings and alerts through compatible iOS and Android devices. The issue is limited to standalone handheld receivers.
